Daniela’s Journey: A Career Change from Healthcare to the EJTC

A new career doesn’t always mean starting over. Sometimes, it means taking the skills you’ve built and bringing them somewhere new.

For Daniela, that meant a career change from healthcare: leaving behind nearly 20 years in the medical field and joining the EJTC (Electrical Joint Training Committee) as an Intake Coordinator.

Leaving the Medical Field

Before the EJTC, Daniela worked as a Medical Office Assistant, including 13 years at a chiropractic office. After years in the same role, she felt she had reached the limit of her growth.

“I basically capped out at what I was doing. There was no more growth for me.”

When a friend of a friend told her about an opportunity at the EJTC, Daniela decided it was time for a change. Nearly three years later, she continues to find new opportunities to learn and grow.

A Little Bit of Everything

As an Intake Coordinator, Daniela wears many hats. She supports the intake team, answers calls and emails, helps applicants through the process, books interviews, completes paperwork, and sits in on interviews.

One of her favourite parts of the role is getting to hear the stories of the people who come through the EJTC.

“You get to learn so much about other people!”

Applicants come from all kinds of backgrounds. Some are fresh out of high school, while others are making a career change after years in another industry. Daniela gets to help many of them navigate their journey into the trades. For her, that is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

“I would say helping people succeed would be my biggest accomplishment here.”

Whether she’s answering questions, helping apprentices understand their requirements, or supporting them as they progress through their training, Daniela enjoys being part of their journey.

“It’s nice to walk the path with them and help them out.”

The Sky’s the Limit

When asked what it takes to succeed in the trades, Daniela emphasizes effort, dependability, and taking responsibility for your own success. And, of course, being on time!

She also believes that the trades offer incredible opportunities for those willing to put in the work.

“The sky’s the limit for you. It just depends on how successful you want to be and how much effort you want to put in.”

Her own journey is a great example. After nearly two decades in the medical field, Daniela took a chance on something new. Today, she continues to learn, grow, and help others do the same.

For Daniela, a career change from healthcare didn’t mean starting from scratch. It meant finding a new place to put her skills to work, and discovering plenty of room to grow along the way.
