What is the Entry Level Trades Training (ELTT) Program at the EJTC?

If you’re considering a career in the ever-growing electrical trades, the Entry Level Trades Training (ELTT) Program at the Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC) is the perfect starting point. This 25-week comprehensive course introduces students to the fundamentals of electrical work and sets them on the path to a rewarding career. Upon successfully completing the course, students receive a certificate and credit for Level 1 technical training related to the Construction Electrician apprenticeship program. Once the program has ended, the EJTC can then select full-time apprenticeship candidates from our program graduates, based upon work availability.

Hands-on paid work experience
One of the stand out features of the ELTT program is the practical experience it offers. After successfully completing the 15 weeks of technical training, ELTT students receive 10 weeks of paid work experience with an IBEW Local 213 electrical contractor. This hands-on approach ensures that students not only learn the theoretical aspects of the trade but also gain valuable on-the-job experience.
Specialized Training for Indigenous Students
The EJTC, in collaboration with training partners ACCESS Trades and SkillPlan, offers an ELTT Pathway program specifically designed for students from Indigenous backgrounds. This program includes eight weeks of Essential Skills training in math, physics, and English before transitioning into the standard 15-week technical training period. This tailored approach helps ensure all students have the foundational skills needed to succeed in all four levels of electrical technical training.

How to Start as an Electrician through ELTT
Starting a career in the electrical trade through the ELTT program at the EJTC provides a clear and structured pathway. With a blend of classroom instruction and real-world experience, students are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of the electrical industry. After completing the program and gaining practical experience, graduates are well-positioned to continue their apprenticeship, eventually becoming certified electricians in British Columbia.
Whether you’re just out of school, looking for a career change, or seeking specialized support as an Indigenous student, the ELTT program at the EJTC is an excellent first step toward a fulfilling career in the electrical trades.
How often do we offer the course?
The Entry Level Trades Training (ELTT) course is offered six (6) times a year: every January, March, May, July, September, and November – although we only advertise one course at a time.
