Introducing the George Ingham Plaza Project

The George Ingham Plaza Project – George Ingham was a leader and influencer in B.C.’s electrical industry. He was ahead of his time and a passionate solar industry pioneer. He worked for Mott Electric in the 1950s and ’60s, where he formed United Power – providing customers with high-quality electrical services and advice on energy savings and management.

George then sat on the Electrical Joint Training Committee’s (EJTC) Board of Directors for 25 years and was inducted into the ECABC Hall of Fame in 2012. He was the first to grasp onto LNG-powered vehicles and dove headfirst into the solar side of the market. George was instrumental in Canada’s electrical industry and key to installing photovoltaic panels on many training facilities and union halls in the U.S.

In 2016, George passed away suddenly yet peacefully. The Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC) looks forward to carrying on his passion, curiosity, and drive in the photovoltaic industry as we strive to uphold the values and vision that George instilled in our organization.

His commitment to sustainability and innovation has left an indelible mark on the electrical industry, and we are dedicated to building upon his legacy by continuing to push boundaries and embrace advancements in solar technology. Through our ongoing efforts in the electrical industry, we honour George’s memory and contribute to a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.

The EJTC is excited to recognize and celebrate George Ingham, a leader in photovoltaic technology and solar installations and a pivotal contributor to the organization, with The George Ingham Plaza Project

The Vision

The George Ingham Plaza will include an array of solar panels and communal seating for those passing by. It will also provide EJTC students with a communal space to dream about the future of the electrical industry with inspiration from the past.

The Plaza will celebrate George’s innovation and contributions to the clean energy sector and carry his legacy and his impact on the electrical industry that can be seen and enjoyed today. George’s career is a testimony to what can be achieved by forming meaningful relationships and working together.

Not only did George leave an imprint at Mott Electric and United Power (which he founded), but he was also an integral and proud member of both ECABC and the EJTC. To this day, the partnership between ECABC and EJTC is unwavering.

The George Ingham Plaza will unite B.C.’s future electrical contractors, leaders, and innovators. Located in front of The EJTC’s Port Coquitlam location, the Plaza and its solar towers will greet current and new students with the inspiration for tomorrow’s possibilities. This Plaza will allow EJTC students and faculty to form connections and collaborate on the future of B.C.’s electrical industry.
