Abigail: Construction Has Always Been My Dream

Abigail’s love for the trade started at a very young age. She loved observing construction workers on the job and was the right-hand person to any industry worker who did maintenance on her childhood home. “Construction has always had a huge place in my heart. As a kid, I remember cheering on the dump truck drivers while watching them through the fence of construction sites. Specifically, I remember a plumber coming to our house as a child. I would stand beside him, watch all his hard work, and was blown away that this was a career choice. I admired him!”
As Abigail grew into adulthood, her passion for the trade never waivered. As soon as she completed high school, she hopped on craigslist and searched for anything that would get her started in the industry of her dreams. “I found this one man who owned a steel stud framing business, and that’s where I got my foot in the door. I didn’t want to pick my forever career right away. I knew I had much growing and learning to do since I was only 18 years old, but I was eager to get out there and get some experience.”
Fast forward a few years and Abigail has now completed her 3rd-year apprenticeship at The Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC). “I found a lot of great mentors at the EJTC. Especially because the EJTC has smaller classes, more one-on-one time with the teachers, and an amicable atmosphere. All my teachers have been extremely inspirational, from how they talk, to how hard they work to help you succeed, they’ve got your back, and it shows.”
Abigail has happily found her place in the electrical trade. It satisfies her need to work with her brain and hands, “it’s a perfect mix.” She continues to learn, grow, and hone her skills in her field while finding immense satisfaction in a job well done.
